This Summer's Novato Theater Company's "One Act Play Festival" at the Novato Theater Company Playhouse (formerly the Pacheco Playhouse) develops a theme that was very successful in 2004 and 2008.
Sometimes one would like to have a taste of this and that rather than a single dish. So it is with a One Act Play Festival offering a little comedy, a little drama and a dash of surreal to top it off! Each one act play is carefully selected by and directed by a different director, and each play tickles the mind toward the next "course". Each is a little jewel unto itself.
The One Act Play Festivals have been a wonderful training ground for new, or less experienced directors. Overseen by an established director, they have the opportunity to gain experience and prove themselves for the purpose of moving on to full length plays. It is a win-win situation as the audience benefits from the variety of writing talent, and the Novato Theater Company gets to groom new directors and actors by working on smaller pieces during the summer months.
This summer's one acts are intriguing. Did this simple housewife really do away with her husband...or is she just a bad housekeeper? Why would a nice young lady shoot a potential suitor through her own front door? What happens when a young couple just starting out is suddenly confronted by their grown son from the future? Do caged birds really want to fly free? Humorous results abound.
